Winter is here, and with that means lots of skincare issues. For me, my biggest problems are dry, itchy skin, and irritation on my underarms. So today, I am sharing some of my favorite winter skincare survival tips, and one essential product that will help get you through these cold winter months!
Your skin needs to be hydrated from the inside as well, which is why it is so important to drink lots of water throughout the day. For me, this is more difficult in the winter, so I try to keep my insulated water bottle with me at all times.
Invest in a hydrating cleanser
Dove Dermatologist, Dr. Alicia Barba, recommends using a hydrating cleanser to deal with dry, winter skin. This is a great tip, and one that I religiously follow. As I said before, my skin gets super dry and itchy in the winter, so I really need that extra moisture in the shower.
Care for your underarms
My underarms are extremely sensitive, and all of the different textures and fabrics from sweaters and other winter clothing really irritate the skin there. This is why I use Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant, which is formulated with moisturizers to help alleviate irritation and leave you with softer and smoother underarms. Seriously, I wish you could feel how smooth. Plus, Dove Advanced Care provides 48-hour odor and wetness protection. I love that it is strong enough to keep me dry for 48 hours, but gentle enough that I’m not dealing with dry, irritated skin. You can check out Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant online here!
I always make sure that I apply moisturizer to my entire body every night before I go to bed. I focus on my hands, elbows, and feet, especially in the winter, as these areas tend to be the driest. Wearing cotton gloves and socks can also help seal in that moisture overnight.
Dr. Barba recommends wearing sunscreen all year round. She suggests switching to a moisturizing sunscreen, a bit richer than what you would wear in the summer. And even if you’re bundled up, sunscreen for your face is a must.
I try to use warm, not hot water, when taking a shower, as hot water can strip oils from your skin. I also lay off of the intense exfoliation in the winter months, as Dr. Barba recommends. A common misconception is that rubbing off dead skin cells daily will improve skin, when it actually can dehydrate it.
I hope that you can use these tips in your winter skincare routine! Please leave me a comment below if you’ve tried Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant, and let me know if you love it as much as I do!
