A couple of weeks ago, I told you about the Billion Dinners Movement (check out that post here), and urged you to start tracking your family dinners with the DinnerCall app. Well I’m happy to say that my family successfully completed the 10 in 2 Challenge! We tracked 10 dinners in 2 weeks, and we couldn’t be more pleased with what this means.
As you can see, our dinners are never perfect! Or fancy. Because of activities or work, we might be missing one or two family members. But we make it happen. And I know our kids will always remember that we sat down together for meals. And that’s what matters most.
This challenge was also a great reminder to stay unplugged during mealtime. Way too often, someone has their phone with them at the table, either texting or scrolling through Instagram. This challenge pushed us to keep the phones put away, and we now have a no-phone rule during all meal times! This includes myself and my husband :)
As you may or may not know, I am a stay at home mom, so sometimes I whip up something for the kids for lunch, and have them eat at the kitchen counter while I run around doing laundry or washing dishes. But when I started tracking our meals, I decided to just sit down with my boys, and enjoy lunch together. It was wonderful! It gave me time to relax and enjoy a meal with just me and my little guys. They loved it too, of course.
Here are two examples of meals that we tracked with the DinnerCall app!
Now here’s a little incentive to start tracking your own dinners! If you track 10 dinners through the DinnerCall app by November 15th, and sign up for the mailing list at billiondinners.org, you will be eligible to win one of five $100 grocery store gift cards! The DinnerCall app is so easy to use and a really fun way to track your meals.
In addition, I will be giving away a $25 grocery store gift card to one lucky reader!!
